Contact Lens Training
Contact lens is a medical device that communicates with the tissues of our body. Improper use and fitting of contact lenses can cause irritation, eye injury, and can even cause eye surface abrasion and painful ulcers.
All these complications can be avoided if we take time to learn how to use and take care of our contact lenses.
If you are interested in wearing contacts or if you are a current contact lens wearer, below are some of the precautions you can take:
1. Have an annual contact lens examination meant specifically to renew the prescription and fit you with safe, reliable contacts
At Seton Optometry, our Eye Doctor matches you with the proper lens. This depends on your prescription, data collected from your case, communication, refraction, keratometry/corneal topography, as well as biomicroscopy.
2. Make sure to insert and remove your lenses correctly
Improper use and poor technique of handling, care, and insertion/removal can lead to serious ocular complications and possible loss of vision.
We offer contact lens insertion and removal training for the first time contact lens wearers. We make every effort to ensure that you are comfortable with handling your lenses for longer, more comfortable lens wear.
3. Do not over-wear your lenses
You may save money in the short term, but using them longer than the prescribed time can lead to infections or other eye conditions.
4. Do not swim with contact lenses
Chlorine and chemicals may ruin them, and serious infections may be caused by bacteria and parasites in pools and hot tubs.
You will get additional tips and instructions on how best to clean and store your contacts, and what to look for in case you develop complications during your contact lens training.
